How to Use the Each-Way Bet Calculator

Enter your each-way stake, decimal odds and the place terms offered for the bet. Then select Calculate Each-Way Bet.

The calculator will show your total stake and the potential returns if the selection wins or only places.

Remember that an each-way bet consists of two separate parts: a win bet and a place bet. Therefore, a R100 each-way bet has a total stake of R200.

How Does an Each-Way Bet Work?

An each-way bet combines:

Win bet: The selection must win for this part of the bet to return.

Place bet: The selection must finish within the qualifying places specified by the bookmaker for this part to return.

If the selection wins, both the win and place parts can return. If it finishes in a qualifying place without winning, only the place part can return.

The number of qualifying places and the place terms can vary depending on the bookmaker, event and market.

What Does R100 Each Way Mean?

A common misunderstanding is that R100 each way costs R100.

It actually consists of:

R100 Win Stake + R100 Place Stake = R200 Total Stake

Similarly:

R50 each way = R100 total stake

R200 each way = R400 total stake

Our calculator automatically shows the total stake before displaying the potential returns.

How Are Each-Way Place Odds Calculated?

Place terms are normally expressed as a fraction of the profit portion of the original odds, such as 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 or 1/5.

For example, decimal odds of 5.00 correspond to fractional odds of 4/1.

With 1/4 place terms:

4 × 1/4 = 1

That produces calculated decimal place odds of 2.00.

A R100 place stake at calculated decimal odds of 2.00 would therefore have a potential place return of R200.

Example of an Each-Way Bet

Suppose you place:

R100 each way

Decimal odds: 5.00

Place terms: 1/4

Your total stake is R200.

If the selection wins, the example calculation gives:

Win return: R500

Place return: R200

Total potential return: R700

Potential profit: R500

If the selection only qualifies for the place part, the calculated place return is R200 in this example.

Actual settlement can differ where bookmaker-specific rules such as dead heats, deductions or other settlement conditions apply.
